What is the relationship between learning and assessment?

It is important to know what is the link between assessment and learning. According to me, assessment is a more positive term which assists in further improvement and development. Usually, the term "assessment" may, in the mind of the student, be associated with examinations. Therefore in using the term, teachers should be sensitive to these associations and their potentially negative connotations, making clear that assessment is simply part of the learning process and is a positive aspect.  It identifies, describes and demonstrates evidence of a person's current skills and knowledge. It can also be used to recognize and record students' achievements and to assist in identifying how teaching and learning processes can be improved. It is time bound and depends on the set objectives. The objectives must be according to the need for assessment. The objectives must be realistic and measurable. The relationship between assessment and learning is a crucial aspect which is neglected most of the times.
